Buyers Guide

ALL INTERESTED BUYERS PLEASE READ:

Windmill Equine offers a wide range of quality, versatile horses from various disciplines and backgrounds. It is our goal to match each horse with the most suitable owner. We spend a lot of time working with our horses, and talking to perspective buyers, to make the buying process as seamless as possible.

Coming to Try a Horse

Our horses go through many different situations and go many places while in our care to see what disciplines and types of programs they are best suited for. No horse is the same and that’s why we showcase each horses talents in the detailed and uncut videos we post of each horse. With that said, regardless of how well we know each horse, it’s impossible for us to know how a horse will be with a new rider. When you try one of our horses here before buying, we both get to see how suitable the match is. Appointments can be made for any day within normal business hours, and we always welcome your trainer to come along. Horses are available for purchase (sight-unseen or vet and ship) at any point as well.

Buying Sight Unseen

We understand that not everyone can come to our farm in person, which is why we put so much time into our videos and descriptions. This is not an uncommon process for us, and we are more than happy to walk you through it to make your purchase a simple and stress free experience. In this case, we love to hear from you and your trainer, if you have one, and take the time to chat about the process and what you’re looking for in your next equine partner. The more we can learn about your riding abilities, experience, and goals with your horse, the more we can help ensure a good match.

Vet Checks

We always encourage vet checks if that makes you more comfortable.

Some clients opt out of vet checks, but you are always welcome to have exams performed by a vet of your choosing. That being said, we do not have X-ray vision, so we always encourage folks to do whatever they need to feel comfortable with their purchase. We take pride in representing our horses truthfully in our ads and will always disclose any maintenance, vices, or limitations that we know of if they have any. Though most of our horses are vice free with no limitations. There are several reputable vets in our area with mobile x-ray equipment and we will provide numbers for you to contact them with and they will work solely with you on what you are wanting to get done. They will also work with you and your vet if you are needing info sent to your vet from them.

You may also opt to have your own vet come with you if they travel here.

Deposits/ Holding A Horse

We offer a way to hold a horse for vettings, not to be held for friends, trainers, your neighbor down the road to come and see the horse(s). If you want us to hold a horse, you have the option to put down a $2000 only refundable upon a licensed veterinarian finding that the horse is not sound for your needs, otherwise it is a nonrefundable deposit.

Your deposit goes toward the purchase price of the horse.

- Deposits are NON REFUNDABLE with the exception of the veterinarian

-Deposits hold the horse for 1 week for vet checks only. After that period the horse will be available to the public again. The deposit is nonrefundable because our horses sell fairly quickly and taking them off the market forces us to turn down other buyers. This is the only way to be fair to all interested parties. Otherwise all horses are available on a first come, first serve basis. Without a deposit the horse will continue to be shown and advertised, even if you have an appointment to come see them.

Are Deposits Transferrable?

Generally speaking, no. The reason why we recommend a deposit is because of how quickly our horses can sell or go under deposit for a vet check. If you place a deposit to try one horse, hoping to see the three others that are listed on our site, chances are they might be sold or unavailable by your arrival. We cannot keep a deposit on hold for a future horse for you. Some horses sell within minutes of being listed, others sell a week later, and some even sell off of just a "Sneak Peek" video or photo. To keep things simple, your deposit is to hold one specific horse for you for the 1 week allotted.

We do not allow trials, leases, or payment plans on any of our horses.

You are welcome to come out to our farm, by appointment to ride. You are welcome, and encouraged, to bring your trainer along to give you a lesson. Folks can also come try the horse on their own, and we are happy to take you out on a hack or trail ride if you’d like. Off property trials are not an option. We do not offer leases or lease to purchase on any of our horses.

Shipping

We can always help with arranging shipping for your horse. Generally, we can ship the horse with one of our in house shippers if you are within a 500 mile radius of our farm. For those outside of that area we can recommend many reputable shipping companies and private shippers who frequent your area or state.  Shipping is NOT included in the sale price.

Payment & Next Steps

We accept a few forms of payment including: wire transfers, cash, cashiers check and Venmo. The most common, and easiest form of payment is a wire transfer. Horses cannot leave our farm until they are paid in full and payment is cleared.

Horses are welcome to stay at our farm as long as two weeks after purchase. Horses MUST be fully insured by you if they are staying on our property once they are purchased. A fee of $35/day for basic board (no riding) and $55/day training board (rides 5 days a week until shipping) is applied to all horses being kept at our farm waiting shipping after the first 7 days. This is not regular board. This is where the horse will stay and be cared for until you can receive them. This is not for owners to come, just horses to stay temporarily. If you want to board we have a seperate option that could be discussed.

Bringing Your Horse Home

Taking a horse out of their home environment can be stressful, even the quietest horses can take time to adjust to their new people and homes. We ALWAYS recommend being prepared by having a course of GastroGuard/Ulcerguard on hand for your horses arrival to help their stomachs stay settled. Even short trailer rides and slight changes in environment can cause an upset stomach or ulcers in horses. Taking this step to prepare and prevent is one small thing you can do to ensure a more seamless transition from our barn to yours.

Keeping your new horse free of ulcers in and after travel is an easy way to keep your horse happy and healthy!

If you would like us to begin treatment prior to shipping, please let us know! We do not charge extra for this service, however we do ask you to pay for the medication ( $45 per tube )

Windmill Equine Trade Policy

At Windmill Equine, all sales are made on an “as-is” basis, as outlined in our Bill of Sale. While we occasionally include a trade-in provision in the Bill of Sale when a horse may not be a good fit, this is not standard. In situations where no such provision exists, trade-ins will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

We understand that a horse may not always meet the needs of its new owner or perform as expected in a specific role. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that every horse finds a suitable home where it can thrive in its intended job. With this in mind, our trade-in policy is as follows:

    1.    Horse Stays with Current Owner: The horse will remain in the care of its current owner until we identify a suitable trade opportunity.

    2.    Timeframe for Matching: Matching the right horse to the right owner takes time, as there is no “Magic Horse Factory.” We will prioritize contacting clients with suitable trade-in horses as we are able to.

    3.    Pre-Purchase Exams (PPE): Clients are encouraged to have a Pre-Purchase Exam (PPE) conducted prior to purchasing a horse. If an injury is discovered or develops after the sale, it is in no way reflective on Windmill Equine. Horses are living animals and, like people, they can sustain injuries at any time.

Trade-ins are entirely at the discretion of Windmill Equine. If we determine that a trade-in is justified, it will be conducted only under the circumstances outlined above.

Our priority is ensuring a positive outcome for both the horses and their owners, and we appreciate your understanding of our policy.
